A step-by-step night audit checklist for front desk teams. Print it, or use it to check that your PMS covers every step. For why each step matters, read the night audit, explained.

Most of this can run automatically

StaySynq's automated night audit posts room charges, flags no-shows, reconciles cashier cash and rolls the business date at your cut-off time, then emails the reports. Anything that doesn't balance lands in an exceptions queue for the morning shift.

What is a night audit in a hotel?

It is the daily routine that closes one business day and opens the next: posting the night's room charges, settling the day's payments, checking for errors and producing the daily reports.

What time is the night audit done?

Usually between midnight and 4am, when the fewest transactions are happening. Many hotels set a fixed cut-off time, such as 2am.

What reports are run during the night audit?

Typically a daily manager report (occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, revenue), a trial balance, a tax summary, a cash report and a housekeeping worklist for the morning.

Can the night audit be automated?

Yes. A cloud PMS can run it at a fixed time and leave only the exceptions for staff. See automated night audit software.
