What are hotel meal plans (EP, CP, MAP, AP)?

Hotel meal plans describe which meals are included in the room rate. EP (European Plan) is room only. CP (Continental Plan) includes breakfast. MAP (Modified American Plan) includes breakfast and one main meal. AP (American Plan) includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

What each plan includes

The four standard plans:

  • EP (European Plan): room only
  • CP (Continental Plan): room and breakfast
  • MAP (Modified American Plan): room, breakfast and lunch or dinner
  • AP (American Plan): room and all three meals

Meal plans and billing

When meals are sold as part of a room package, the restaurant needs to know which guests are covered so their meals are not billed twice. In India, a room package with meals is generally taxed as one supply at the room's GST rate; confirm the treatment with your accountant. See GST billing.

Common questions

What does MAPAI mean?

It is used by some resorts for MAP on an all-inclusive basis. The exact inclusions vary by hotel, so they should be spelled out in the booking.
