The ROI of Mobile Housekeeping

We measured time-on-task before and after switching to mobile-first housekeeping. The numbers surprised us.

Housekeeping

Housekeeping is the least-instrumented department in most hotels. Paper task sheets, walkie-talkies, a clipboard at the supervisor's station. We worked with 14 properties to switch to mobile-first task management and measured the result.

What changed

Each housekeeper got a phone-based app: today's room list, status changes with one tap, instant notifications when a guest checks out early or a VIP arrival is imminent.

  • Average rooms per attendant per shift: 14 → 17 (+21%)
  • Average time a clean room sat 'dirty' in the system: 47 min → 4 min
  • Lost-and-found logged within 5 minutes: 28% → 91%
  • Maintenance tickets raised from the floor: 3.2× more than before
We didn't speed up the cleaning. We removed the wait time between rooms.

The 21% productivity gain wasn't from faster cleaning. It was from eliminating the dead minutes between rooms — finding the next task, confirming status with the supervisor, walking to the linen room for a fresh stack. Mobile collapsed all of that into instant.
